On Friday, October 9, 2015 at 1pm at the Nye ABC, Taubman Fifth Floor, join the Harvard Kennedy School’s Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston and the Taubman Center for State and Local Government to hear panelists explore the city’s approach to using data, its successes, and remaining challenges. The City of Boston has achieved remarkable performance improvements through its use of data. Using internal resources, as well as external partnerships, the city has used technology to improve city services and allow greater access for residents. The panel will be moderated by Jeffrey Liebman, Director of the Taubman Center for State and Local Government and Director of the Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston and will include William Christopher, Commissioner, City of Boston Inspectional Services Department; Joseph E. Finn, Commissioner/Chief of Department Boston Fire Department; Peter Ganong, Special Assistant for Data Analytics, City of Boston Department of Information Technology; Alex Lawrence, Permitting Project Manager, City of Boston. This panel will examine two efforts undertaken by the City of Boston to increase the effectiveness of the Boston Fire Department and Inspectional Services Department through the use of technology and data.  The panel will provide an opportunity to hear from both practitioners and information technology staff about the outcomes and challenges of their efforts. Read more here.
